Before the knife, a doctor board must be positioned to provide a smooth flow from the draw drum to the cut point (tip of the bottom cross-cutting knife). Importantly, the doctor board must be level across the cutter. Similarly, the after-knife doctor board, between the cutter and the delivery mouth of the high-speed tape section, needs to be positioned evenly across the sheeter. In some cases, the doctor boards can be made out of sheet metal. In the event of a jam up—especially after the knife—these doctor boards can be bent. Be sure in such cases that the boards are properly straightened. Otherwise, the cut quality can be affected.
